Its a Thursday AND the first day of fall; could today be any better?!
FALSE! Today was a rough day. I had to start my day at 7:15 AM to study evolution and microscopes for a zoology quiz after a late night at the library. For the record, I would not recommend studying for a quiz an hour before the class starts…
A tough quiz, 3 hour lab, and lecture I fell asleep in later, I found myself laying in my bunk bed under a mound of blankets watching New Girl on Netflix with no intent of moving.
Mary, my roommate, walks in with a pep in her step and suggests that we go to Starbucks and grab some Pumpkin Spice Lattes before power studying for a couple hours. In complete desperation for some energy, I join her. After all, it is the first day of fall and what better way to celebrate the first day of fall than with some PSLs!?
Being the health nut I am, I looked up the nutrition content for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I found that in a 16 oz ( grande ) PSL with whole milk, there is 420 calories, 10 grams of saturated fat, 52 carbs, and 50 grams of sugar.
SO, I went to Starbucks and asked for an tall iced coffee with 1 pump of pumpkin spice and added stevia. ( Stevia is a 0 calorie natural sweetener and a gift from the gods ) This drink has the perfect amount of pumpkin spice flavor and caffeine to satisfy our craving.
Next time you are getting ready for a tailgate in the morning or apple picking, swap out a Pumpkin Spice Latte with this simple pumpkin caffeine fix. You won’t regret it!
