Spa Water

Anyone else obsessed with spa water??

Whenever I go to a spa, I fill my water bottle up to the rim with this bevvie. This stuff is literally crack water… It’s my go-to stop at the hydration station.

However, its so easy to become dehydrated this time of the year. I’m OCD about staying hydrated and the more I learn about the benefits of staying hydrated, the more I chug.

Water helps your kidneys filter out toxic substances from your body. More hydration = more excretion of those nasty substances. Water also: promotes weight loss, improves skin complexion, boosts immune system, prevents headaches and sprains. Thirsty yet?

But, not all bev’s are created equal…

Dehydrating Drinks…

Alcohol – alcohol inhibits this hormone called ADH ( anti diuretic hormone ). This hormone does exactly what it sounds like, stops the dilution of your urine. ADH allows your body to reabsorb water necessary to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

Caffeine – caffeine dilates an arteriole going to your kidneys. As a result, there is an increase in the filtration of substances which may be excreted out of the body. This is why you are running to the bathroom after a grande Starbucks coffee! If you follow my Instagram, you know I bleed coffee. I gulp on water with coffee to avoid dehydration.

How to Stay Hydrated

My best tip for staying hydrated is to always carry a water bottle with you. This way, you will always have a convenient supply of water.

Sick of water?

Same. Both my mom and I get bored of plain water. To jazz up our h2o, we make our own spa water together! This way, we don’t have to go to the spa every time we want this bev…

The best way to make spa water is to add frozen fruit. Frozen fruit adds that yummy, fruity flavor while keeping it cool. This is my fave way to stay hydrated without drinking calories and sugar.

I switch between: strawberries, lemons, mango, pineapple, and mint. My fave combo is strawberries & lemon in sparkling water.

Here’s how to make your own spa water:

Fill a water bottle with sparkling water ( like La Croix ). Add fruits ( frozen or fresh ) to your water bottle and leave in fridge overnight.

Avoid sparkling water that has added or artificial sugar. The fruit will provide enough sweetness, trust me!
